Silicon is the second most abundant element on Earth and is commonly found in silicon dioxide (silica). Purifying silica and converting it into polysilicon involves several steps, including melting and refining, solidifying, and then crystal growth. The resulting polysilicon is a highly refined, multi-crystalline silicon used as a raw material in producing solar panels and other electronic devices.
The polysilicon industry has grown significantly in recent years, driven by increasing demand for renewable energy and the growth of the semiconductor and electronics industries. MWI supports all phases of the silicon value chain starting with the feedstock.
